Heating and warm water

With the right heating technology, you can save a lot of energy and thus money.

But what is the "right heater"? There is no general answer here.

A classic replacement for an old oil heating system is a pellet heating system. Pellets behave like heating oil. You need a storage place, the boilers are identical in size, you have to make sure that there is fuel in the store.

The advantages of a pellet heating system are:

  • No more oil smell in the house
  • 100% regenerative
  • No additional generation of carbod.

If currently mainly damaged trees are processed into pellets, we also know that we will have to fell trees for this in the future. It is planned that way and today forests are being planted, from which we will produce pellets in a few years.

The prices for pellets will also rise, as well oil and gas. Just not that strong. Ideally, a pellet heating system is combined with solar thermal energy

A heat pump is a great thing, but it only works in renovations if something is done on the building. Replacing a gas heating with a heat pump will work without underfloor heating. It doesn't get cold in the house. But with what effort? In the best case, a heat pump reaches a temperature of 65 ° C. You need up to 85 ° C for the heating flow. You have to compensate for the missing 20 ° C electrically with a heating rod. That costs a lot of money and is not very efficient.

A heat pump can be combined with a PV system in order to use the self-generated electricity in the heat pump.

A fuel cell heating combined with a gas heating works very well in the renovation and has the advantage that you generate your annual electricity needs yourself.

The classic condensing gas heating or gas heating is good to have, but then you should combine them with solar heating.

With solar heating you can generate your own heat for heating and hot water. There are flat-plate collectors, tube collectors and various systems with hybrid collectors that generate electricity and heat at the same time. A solar thermal system basically consists of the collectors and a layered storage tank. The solar thermal energy generates the hot water and in the transition period also some heating.

A south-facing roof is not absolutely necessary. The roof pitch is also important, because the steeper the roof, the better it is. The collectors can be raised on flat roofs.

A CHP-Unit (combined heat and power unit) generates heat and electricity in one. Biodiesel, natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas and, new, also hydrogen can be used as fuel. CHP units all have one thing in common. They have to run. CHPs are efficient from running times of around 5000 hours per year. If there is a CHP because the generated heat cannot be dissipated, no electricity is generated. It is therefore important to design a CHP according to the heat demand. A second heating is always required as a peak load boiler for a CHP unit.

A sun heated house is a great thing. You are almost independent of oil and gas. The concept provides for the generation of heat, for example, with a fireplace and solar thermal energy. In an emergency, an oil or gas heater starts up, which may already be available and only needs to be adjusted in terms of output.

The transfer of heat also plays a major role.

Radiators were traditionally installed. From a technical point of view, it doesn't matter here whether you have old radiators or new panel radiators. All are designed for a specific performance and warm you up. The disadvantage of radiators is the relatively high flow temperature that is required in the heating circuit.

There are also low temperature radiators. These require less flow temperature and are then also suitable for a heat pump, for example.

The classic underfloor heating, wall heating or ceiling heating are available as surface heating. They all work and function according to the same principle. When renovating, it is often very time-consuming and sometimes not possible to install underfloor heating at a later date. Wall or ceiling heating is the best option here.
