Definition of an SME

The EU established the framework for defining a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME).

These are:

A maximum of 249 employees, a maximum of 50 million annual sales or 43 million total assets

Bafa has adopted this definition and also stipulated that the worldwide group of companies must be taken into account.

Of course there are other parameters that have to be taken into account. These include:

Company shares in% for the global corporate group for employees and sales / balance sheet total, part-time employees, student workers, etc.

For this purpose, there are forms on the Bafa website to determine whether your own company is an SME or not.

In most cases it is clear. Sometimes the own company / location is obviously a clear SME, but then via a group of companies it becomes a non-SME.

Ask us, we will be happy to help you determine.
